How we got hooked on crochet

Today on International Crochet Day we look back on who taught us and how we started crocheting.

The four of us were taught how to crochet by Mrs Schofield, a member of staff at our school.

We started off with large chunky wool making hats that were donated to the homeless. As first projects go, I remember the hats required a generous amount of focus at the beginning to make sure my stitches were even and there was quite a lot of frustration starting out but Mrs Schofield was so patient that the finished product looked professional and more importantly was wearable. We moved on to crochet blankets for babies born prematurely and were rewarded by learning some new stitches that would eventually make it into the tops we sell today.

Then lockdown happened and we turned to crochet to keep busy. Georgia crocheted a top for fun and it turned out so well that after investing in new smaller needles and choosing from a wide selection of finer yarns, I followed some youtube tutorials and started crocheting tops too, putting my own spin on their designs. We found they made great gifts for our friends and soon Mimi and Tegen were hooked.

Now, crocheting is a pretty significant part of our lives and almost one year on we couldn't be prouder of what we've achieved.
