The Rise of Catwalk Crochet

Crochet has made it onto the catwalk and we're not mad about it.

Whether it's a boob tube, a bikini top or a bucket hat, crochetwear has been a summer staple since before any of us can remember. However, in the past year or so, this 70s-esque style seems to have graduated from beaches and festivals to the Fashion Week runways.

In Spring 2020, crochet was listed in Harper's Bazaar as one of the season's standout trends - specifically crochet midi dresses. Skirts, shirts, jumpsuits and even ponchos have since joined the ranks of high fashion crochet pieces. Whilst we can't help but question some of the more ~artistic~ designs (see images below), it is undeniably a good thing that the industry is promoting more sustainable, handmade clothing. And at the end of the day, whilst we usually go with slightly more minimalist designs, we think it's about time that crochetwear got the appreciation it most definitely deserves.

Catch our very own crochetwear on the runway at the St Cuthbert's Charity fashion show in Durham on the 24th of June!
